Comfort foods for you to explore in Bengaluru.

The delicious warm smell of curry leaves and coconut mixed into an aroma of familiarity and comfort. That’s street food in some of the old shops in Bangalore. The rice fans in the crowd; this is your safe Haven. Whether you are a local or the IT crowd of Bangalore there is always a place to have the best food just around the corner. If you are an avid user of “Nanage Kannada gothilla”, worry not, we still got you. Here are the 5 best foods to have and the places to visit, to get your taste buds wanting for more.

  1. Dosa

The echo of people chatting around, the sound of dishes being distributed to the respective tables by the staff accompanied by the warm delicious smell of the comfort food is overwhelming.

Old places, like CTR (Central Tiffin Room) & Vidyarthi Bhavan, and Gandhi Bazaar in Malleshwaram have got one of the most crispy dosas ever. It has got this golden center of deliciousness packed into one. The dosa here has this thick texture with fine fermentation. Mixed with the chutney is just comfort in every bite. You can also very well go for the famous vada, idli and kesari bath here. With a filter coffee it would make your day.

  1. Idli – Vada & Khara Bath

The roadside Veena store – Malleshwaram, is just the place for your out-of-this-world Idli. It’s crispy, full of flavours from the spicy chutney and has been consistent for decades now. The vada is crunchy doughnut-looking, which is nowhere tasting similar to that. The surprise is way better. It’s crunchy & salty till the last bite. Mixed with the spicy chutney it is definitely giving your taste buds a heck of happiness to process. SLV in Siddanna Layout, Banashankari is another mention.

The khara bath is the upma with a beautiful mouth-watering take and a speciality of Karnataka.  Brahmins’ Coffee Bar – Ranga Roa road in Shankarapura is another place to try out this amazing south Indian cuisine. Let’s thindi!

  1. Filter coffee

Speaking about coffee it would be a shame if you come to Bangalore and do not have filter coffee. If you ask me, MTR in Lalbagh is one of the oldest. This place serves one of the best in the city. The strongest…yes, with the milk foam on top, it’s like the cherry on top. NMH (New Modern Hotel), Maiyas in Jayanagar, Brahmins’ Coffee Bar – Ranga Roa road, and Shankarapura are some of the honourable mentions.

  1. Gobi manchurian & Chilli bhajji

If you haven’t had Gobi manchurian earlier, you should very well start with Bangalore. Both these veggie fries have been an absolute favourite and can be found being sold in every nook and corner of the city. Make it your breakfast or evening snack with a nice cuppa filter coffee, and you are good to go.

  1. Gadbad ice-cream

Confused?

Well, probably whoever coined it was equally confused with the ingredients that goes into it and just couldn’t put a finger on what made it so damn delicious. It is a mixture of various flavours of ice cream (obviously), dry fruits, tuti fruity, and the cherry on top literally. Do you want to refresh? Get gadbad. If you want dessert, get gadbad. Many restaurants across Bangalore serve this delicacy. My take? Go to Cool Point, Geetha Colony, Jayanagar and you won’t be disappointed with your first Gadbad.

An honourable mention is VV Puram street. This is “D” safe Haven for all the foodies out there. From desi burgers to pani puris to idlis at ₹10, pav bhajis, Indian chinese food….phew! You get the picture friend.

Hope this helps you get the best foods the next time you are in Bangalore. Till then….stay masked!
